In order to assure a safe and stable home for children in foster care, there are some basic qualifications that all families are required to meet:

1. Foster parents may be legally married couples or single individuals (aged 21 or older). Couples who are not legally married are unable to be licensed. Same-sex couples are included within this requirement.

2. Foster parents must be US citizens or legal residents with a social security number.

3. Foster parents and all persons aged 18 and older in the home must pass a BCI (background checks).

4. Foster parents need to be financially stable and able to support their family without assistance from the state.

5. Foster parents need to be healthy enough to care for children, as determined by their own medical provider.

6. Foster parents will not be licensed to do both foster care and  day care  at the same time.

7. While foster parents can be homeowners or renters, there are physical aspects of your home that are important, your home needs to be clean, in good repair, and free from health and fire hazards. A home inspection will be completed.

8. Ensure the foster home has no more than 3 foster children in the home unless they are a sibling group.

What if I have a current license with another agency?

If you feel that you meet these qualifications, please proceed to Step 1.
